Elk Ridge Estate is at the heart of it all with easy access to top destinations in the valley.
Town of Jackson. Jackson Hole. Teton Village. Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Snow King. First-time visitors mix these up all the time or think they’re synonymous.
As a local, I can tell you you’ll want to know the difference when you book your Jackson Hole vacation. I’ll give you the same rundown of the area I give my visitors, answer questions I get from my guests all the time, and show you how Elk Ridge Estate is sited compared to Jackson Hole’s most popular attractions.
The single most common question we get before a guest arrives is some version of: “How far are you from the ski resort?”
But let’s break down what they’re really asking without knowing it. Jackson Hole has two ski areas. One is called Snow King and we have a beautiful elevated view of it from Elk Ridge Estate. It towers over the town of Jackson (more on that later) with runs leading right into Jackson itself. It’s only two miles from our location and accessible with a quick 2-mile drive or even via the bike path using bikes right in the toy closet at Elk Ridge Estate.
Snow King is the oldest ski area in Wyoming with locals schlepping it up the hill with old-school wood skis starting in the 1920s. By 1939 it had a rope tow. It’s now so much more. Nowadays it has the steepest zip line in North America, three high-speed lifts, a ropes course, an alpine slide, tubing in the winter, a summit restaurant, on observatory and planetarium on the summit at nearly 8,000 feet, summit concerts, an alpine coaster and a scenic gondola taking people to the summit year-round. Whew… That’s not even everything! Snow King is a great place for families and hosts family-friendly skiing and activities for most of the year, including the popular National Snowmobile Hill Climb in March every year.
But despite all the fun available there, most people are really asking how close Elk Ridge Estate is to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort at Teton Village (14.2 miles is the answer). People rarely call the resort its actual name though. That’s probably because the valley’s geography is genuinely confusing to outsiders and the names are redundant:
